Council Bluffs, IA – Iowa Lakes travelled down to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs to open their four-game series. The games did not go Iowa Lakes way dropping them both 5-1 and 6-0.
Iowa Western started off the game with a bang. A lead-off double and back to back homeruns put the Lakers in a big 3-0 hole in the first inning. The Lakers scratched their one and only run across the board after Chad Hinkle scored on a BJ Johnson single. The Reivers answered back quickly having a run score in the bottom of the third inning. The final run of the game came from the Reivers in the fifth inning after a couple of walks and a passed ball. The Lakers had Marcel d'Avoine on the mound for the length of the game, pitching six innings allowing 5 runs, 7 hits, and striking out 3.
Game two was like game one for the Lakers. The offense was quiet throughout the game having only two hits in the entire game from Johnson and Bo Lovdahl. The Reivers started off game two with another bang, scoring two runs on two hits and one error. Piling on three more runs in the third inning off three hits and two walks, the Reivers took a 5-0 lead. Scoring another run in the fifth on two singles and a costly throwing error by the catcher gave the Reivers their sixth and final run of the game. The Lakers were handed their eleventh loss on the year losing 6-0 in game two of the four game series. Mitch Sparks started thegame for the Lakers, throwing 5 innings allowing 6 runs, 4 hits, and 3 walks. Beau Britton was issued an inning of work shuting down the Reivers in order and striking out one.
The Lakers will take on the Reivers again Monday, March 27th for another double header beginning at noon.
