(Estherville, Iowa) Two Iowa Lakes Community College baseball athletes were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Baseball All-Region teams.
Fernando Bones was named ICCAC All-Region Honorable Mention. Bones completed the season with a .289 batting average and .272 in conference play. He finished with 46 hits, including 10 doubles and 2 homeruns. Bones also drew 18 walks and was hit by a pitch 14 times. During the conference season he had 9 stolen bases and totaled 15 for the regular season. On the defensive side, Bones played in 53 games. He had 183 TC (total chances), 89 PO (put outs), 85 assists, and only 9 errors.
"Fernando had a big-time season for us this year, he was the only player to start every single game for Iowa Lakes in 3 seasons. His defense was second to none in the conference and he found a way to help us win every game with the bat, being a spark plug at the top of our lineup. Bones also set school records for hit by pitches both in a season as well as taking home the career record. Its great to see Fernando take home all region honors, it's just a testament to the impact he's had in our program these past 2 years", commented Head Coach Chris Witzke.
Ty Thomson was named ICCAC All-Region Honorable Mention. Thomson, a freshman left-handed pitcher, saw success in his rookie season. Thomson had 11 appearances with a 3-6 record and 1 save+. In 47.1 innings he gave up 45 hits, 35 runs, 24 earned runs, and 4 homeruns. He also had 29 walks and 59 strikeouts. Thomson had a 4.56 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP.
"It's great to see Ty get recognized for the season he put up for us, he singlehandedly tripled our conference win total from the previous season. Ty also finished in the top 10 in the region in a lot of key pitcher's statistics, he shared the team lead for strikeouts with Mason Hicks, both of them punching out 59 batters this year, which is an amount that hasn't been reached in ur program in 4 seasons", commented Head Coach Chris Witzke.
