The Lakers traveled to Marshalltown for the conference opener this weekend and went 1-2. In game one the Lakers had 10 runs on 13 hits but found themselves 3 runs short, falling 10-13. The offense was led by sophomore Blake Evans who went 4-4 with 4 hits and 2 RBIs. Freshman Grant Dusatko had 4 RBIs on 2 hits and one homerun for the Lakers in game one. Freshmen Kobe Peterson and Ayden Wells, and sophomore Boyd Jones all tallied 2 hits apiece, Wells added an RBI on a solo homerun, and Jones added 2 RBIs. Getting the start in game one was freshman Luke Holcomb. Holcomb went two and a third innings, allowing 8 runs, 5 earned runs, on 4 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 5. Sophomore Reggie York V came in and threw 3 innings allowing 2 runs, on 3 hits with 4 walks and striking out 4.
In game two the Lakers truck in the top of the first inning and never looked back scoring in all but 2 of the remaining innings winning game two 22-13. Leading the offensive battery was freshman Grant Dusatko with 5 hits, 5 RBIs, and a solo homerun. Freshman Kobe Peterson added 3 hits and an RBI, sophomores Boyd Jones (2 RBIs) and Blake Evans (RBI) both added 3 hits apiece, Ayden Wells added 4 hits and an RBI. Sophomore Jace Embry had 5 RBIs on 2 hits. On the mound for the lakers was freshmen Joas Mercedes threw 3 innings allowing 5 runs (5 earned runs), on 7 hits , striking out 2. Freshmen Sam Reinker went an inning allowing 2 runs (2 earned runs), on 2 hits, 2 walks , and struck out 2. Freshman Garrett Norick threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs (3 earned runs), on 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6.
In game three, the lakers came out hot offensively scoring 6 runs in the top of the first, but despite the hot start, the lakers fell short 6-11. Leading the lakers at the plate was sophomore Jace Embry, with 2 hits. Grant Dusatko added a hit and 2 RBIs, Kobe Peterson, Blake Evans both had a hit and an RBI. Getting the start in game three was sophomore Kenryu Seimori, who threw 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs (3 earned runs) on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Sophomore Adam Timm threw 1.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (2 earned runs) on 3 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Javen Baumgarn also threw an inning allowing 1 run on no hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
On the weekend Grant Dusatko had 9 RBIs on 8 hits, with a double, and a homerun, Blake Evans had 3 RBIs on 8 hits, with a double and a triple, Ayden Wells had 2 RBIs on 7 hits, with a double, a homerun, and 5 walks.
The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Iowa Central for a single game starting at 12:00 pm.
