The Lakers had their home opener this weekend against the #3 ranked Eagles from Kirkwood CC. In game one of the series, the Lakers had 6 runs on 13 hits, winning 6-5. Leading the offense for the Lakers was freshman Ayden Wells, with 3 hits. Sophomore Spencer Kober (double) and freshman Eliezer Rolon-Cruz both added 2 hits apiece. Sophomores Jace Embry, Boyd Jones, Blake Evans, and freshmen Kobe Peterson, Grant Dusatko, and Jean Cartagena all added a hit in the Lakers victory. Rolon-Cruz had 2 RBIs, Embry and Jones both added an RBI apiece. Sophomore Blake Evans added an RBI to earn the Lakers the walk-off win. Getting the start for the Lakers was freshman Luke Holcomb. Holcomb went 4.0 innings allowing 2 runs (2 earned runs) on 2 hits 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. Coming in for relief was sophomore Reggie York V, going 3.0 innings allowing 1 run (1 earned run) on 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Garrett Norick went 1.2 innings allowing 2 runs (2 earned runs) on 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Earning the win for the Lakers was freshman Cole McKinney.
In game 2 the Lakers scored 3 runs on 8 hits, despite having 8 hits the lakers just couldn't capitalize with runners on base falling 3-8. Leading the Lakers offense was sophomore Jace Embry with 2 hits. Freshmen Ayden Wells, Grant Dusatko, Kobe Peterson, Jean Cartagena, sophomores Boyd Jones and Carlos Gomez (Rs. So) all added a hit for the Lakers. Freshman Eliezer Rolon-Cruz and Jean Cartagena had an RBI a piece. On the mound for the Lakers in game 2 was sophomore Kenryu Seimori, throwing 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (2 earned runs) on 2 hits, 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Coming in for relief was freshman Sam Reinker, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned run) on 3 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Sophomore Adam Timm threw 1.0 innings, allowing 2 hits, no runs, and 2 strikeouts.
In game 3 the Lakers struggled with the offense only having 3 hits and scoring 1 run in the 1-11 loss. Sophomore Jace Embry (double), Blake Evans (double), and Ty Martin had the only hits for the Lakers. Boyd Jones tallied the only RBI for the Lakers. Pitching for the Lakers was freshman Owen Glassburner, going 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (2 earned runs) on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. In relief was freshman Joas Mercedes, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 6 strikeouts. Cole McKinney had an inning of work and allowed 4 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
On the weekend sophomore Jace Embry led the offense with 4 hits and an RBI, followed by freshman Ayden Wells with 4 hits, Jones had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Rolon-Cruz had 2 hits and 3 RBIs, Evans added 2 hits and an RBI.
The Lakers will be back in action Tuesday March 31st against NIACC in Mason City.
