Manthei Finishes 2nd in Fall Opener

The Lakers kicked off their fall campaign in Creston, IA. SWICC hosted an 18-hole coed event. SWICC and Iowa Central teams tied for 1st with 291 (+3). Iowa Central won the scorecard-tie-breaker to take home the team title. The Lakers finished T-5 with a 302 (+14) total. Sophomore, Jayden Manthei, birdied his last two holes to earn him 2nd place individually. Freddie Muggeridge, of SWICC, was a group behind Manthei. Muggeridge finished eagle, birdie to win the tournament individually. Freshman Mason Dahms carded a 76 (+4) in his collegiate debut. Josh Matheason and Drew Parsons came in with a pair of 78's. Kasey Grimmius rounded out the varsity lineup with an 82 (+10).

"Crestmoor has a lot of blind shots and deceiving holes. We had some course management mistakes that led to a handful of bogeys. Overall, I'm pleased with how our guys battled and adjusted to a course they've never played. Jayden played himself into contention to win the tournament. Shoutout to Freddie finishing eagle, birdie to sneak past Jayden by one. I was happy to see Mason put together a solid round for his first collegiate event. I'm hoping to see a couple more guys step up at NIACC's event and put our team in a position to win," said Coach Myers.
