11 Iowa Lakes men competed at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City, IA. NIACC hosted the coed, 18-hole event. SWICC posted a school record total of -16 to earn 1st place. Iowa Central and Northeast tied for second with totals of -13. For the Lakers, Josh Matheason tied for 1st place with a (bogey-free) round of -6. After the scorecard playoff, Josh finished 3rd amongst the five individuals who tied for 1st. The Lakers varsity finished T-8 at +9 for the day.
"I'm very excited for Josh. He had a tough end to the season last year, missing nationals by one stroke. I can tell he unlocked another gear over the summer that will allow him to go low when his game is clicking. We just need to get more than one guy playing well on the same day. Similar to last year, we have talented players. Our team's score rarely reflects that because we continue to struggle getting everyone clicking at the same time. We have a little over a week to dive into the small details. We need to get more out of the talent we have," said Coach Myers.
