LAKER MEN’S SOCCER RETURNS TO ACTION WITH 4-2 WIN OVER IOWA CENTRAL

After a long and anticipated wait, the Iowa Lakes men's soccer team returned to competition hosting fellow ICCAC affiliate Iowa Central Tritons.  The Lakers would win the game 4-2.

The Lakers found themselves down a goal early to the Tritons when All-American striker Christian Koffi found the back of the Laker net just three minutes into the game.  The Lakers would finally get ahold of the game, and twenty minutes later would equalize off a penalty kick won by Sophomore Sebastian Zapata who was taken down in the Triton box during a Laker corner kick. Sophomore Sofian Magahouz would step up and convert the penalty kick. Making the game 1-1 going into halftime.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, the lakers would take the lead with a beautiful combination play inside the Triton penalty box. Sofian Magahouz played a great ball for Sophomore Jean-Mikael Tishibanda to slot home, putting the Lakers up 2-1. However, the laker lead would not last long as Iowa Centrals Christian Koffi would add another goal to his name tying the game at 2-2.

With five minutes left in the game, Sofian Magahouz hit a bending shot on the edge of the Triton box into the side netting putting the lakers up 3-2 assist Jean-Mikael Tishibanda. With less than a minute left in the game Sophomore transfer, Darnell Shortland would open his scoring campaign for the lakers when following up a rebound off a Sofian Magahouz penalty kick, sealing the win for the lakers.

"It was great to finally be back out on the field playing again in a competitive game, the team and I have been looking forward to this match for quite some time now. I am happy with the result as the guys are still getting to know each other after only having six training sessions together. We will improve as the weeks go on and will now start to prepare for our doubleheader next weekend." Said
Head Coach Ben MacRae.

The Lakers will host both Indian Hills CC and Marshalltown CC next Saturday, September 26th at 1 pm and 4 pm.
