The Iowa Lakes men's soccer team has finished the regular season and will begin postseason play this Saturday, May 15. Iowa Lakes finished the season as the 2nd seed so they will host the 3rd seeded Marshalltown in Spencer at 1:00 pm.

The Lakers ended the regular season with a record of 8-3 behind top seeded Iowa Western. The Lakers will be playing a familiar foe in Marshalltown, having already played twice this season. They beat Marshalltown in both meetings; the first game with a score of 3-0 and the second with a score of 5-1.

"It will be an outstanding match. We need to play as a team. We need to put our chances away and defend really well," commented Coach MacRae.

The Lakers are led by freshmen David Owusu who has scored 8 goals this season and has 3 assists and 19 points. Sophomore Sofian Maghouz has scored 6 goals, 4 assists, 16 points, and is ranked 2nd in the country for shots taken. The Lakers have had a strong presence in the net with goalies Dion Zhubi earning 3 shutouts and Taariq Ganga earning 2 shutouts.

The Lakers have had a really good attack all year scoring 35 goals in 11 games. The Lakers are averaging 3.18 goals a game. The Lakers are ranked #1 in the country in shots on goal at 2.23%.

"Our focus is on Marshalltown right now. We have had a really good week of practice and have enjoyed the opportunity to have a week of practice," commented Coach MacRae.

On the other side of the bracket #4 Indian Hills plays at #1 Iowa Western on Saturday, May 15. The winner of that game will play the winner of Iowa Lakes and Marshalltown. The championship game will be held Tuesday, May 18th at the highest remaining seed. The champion will then play in the Midwest District Tournament hosted by the Region 11 Champion. That winner will then advance to the NJCAA National Tournament June 5-10 at the Stryker Complex in Wichita, KS.
