The Iowa Lakes men's soccer team has been selected as an at large bid to compete in the junior college national tournament. This will be the first trip to the national tournament for the Lakers.
The Lakers are seeded 10 and will play against the 3 seed Daytona State and the 6 seed Tyler.
Although it's their first trip, Coach Ben MacRae is looking to make an impact at the tournament this year, "We have been knocking at the door for the past 4 seasons. We are not going there to just be a number, we believe we have the quality, character and mindset to cause some rumblings. There is no doubt we will be one of the underdogs. It's going to be a great test and one our boys are going to relish."
MacRae will be looking for some key players to have a big impact. Sofian Maghouz has scored 8 goals and assisted on 4 this season. Odal Brown has had 2 goals and 5 assists. David Owusu has had 8 goals and 3 assists. Center back Sebastian Zapata will be a key contributor.
The national tournament will take place at the Stryker Complex in Wichita, Kansas. Group play for Iowa Lakes will be Saturday, June 5th at 4 pm and Sunday, June 6th at 4 pm. One team from each group will continue to the next round.
