#5 Iowa Lakes Splits Conference Matches, Prepares for Top-5 Showdown

Spencer, IA – September 29, 2025 – The #5-ranked Iowa Lakes men's soccer team faced a challenging week of conference play, earning a decisive road win at #18 Central before falling at home to #16 Southeastern. The Lakers now sit at 2-1 in conference play as they prepare for a highly anticipated top-five clash against #2 Northeast this Wednesday.

On September 24, the Lakers traveled to #18 Central and came away with a 2-0 victory, thanks to a pair of second-half goals. Rashidi Ishibwami broke the deadlock in the 61st minute with a powerful header off an assist from Ewan Harrington. Just four minutes later, Jugene Wessels doubled the lead with a strike from 20 yards out, assisted by Florent Lefebvre. Defensively, the Lakers secured the clean sheet behind strong performances from goalkeeper Louis Krueger and defenders Anwar Yusif, Jeremy Koppe, and Harrington, who earned his first start of the year while anchoring the back line.

Three days later on September 27, Iowa Lakes hosted #16 Southeastern in Estherville but fell 4-1. After conceding early, the Lakers quickly equalized when Rashidi Ishibwami set up Karim Saada in the 20th minute. However, Southeastern capitalized on their chances and pulled away before halftime.

Now 2-1 in ICCAC play, Iowa Lakes turns its focus to a national top-five matchup on Wednesday, traveling to face #2 Northeast, a game that could have major implications in the conference and national rankings.
