IOWA LAKES CAPTURES FIRST-EVER ICCAC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP WITH WIN OVER #18 IOWA CENTRAL
SPENCER, Iowa — October 22, 2025 — The #7 Iowa Lakes Lakers men's soccer team secured a historic milestone on Wednesday, defeating #18 Iowa Central Tritons 3 – 0 to claim the program's first-ever Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular-season championship.
It didn't take long for the Lakers to make their mark. In just the 2nd minute, Freshman forward Jugene Wessels opened the scoring off a sharp assist from Sharif Nata N'tcha. Wessels doubled the lead in the 25th minute with a thunderous 20-yard strike, assisted by Rayan Perrot Bouziyane.
Iowa Lakes controlled the match throughout, outshooting Iowa Centralwith 17 Shots, 7 shots on goal. In the closing moments, Karim Saada sealed the victory in the 87th minute, slotting home from a Wessels assist, capping off a standout three-point performance by Wessels.
The result proved decisive in the conference race, as #3 Northeast Hawks fell 3 – 2 to #11 Central Columbus Raiders and #5 Southeastern Blackhawks dropped a 2 – 0 decision to the NIACC Trojans, allowing the Lakers to leapfrog both programs and clinch the title.
With the title, Iowa Lakes earns the #1 seed and the right to host the Region XI Tournament in Spencer. The Lakers receive two byes and will open play in the semifinals on Wednesday, October 29, facing the winner of #4 Northeast / #5 Dakota County / #8 Marshalltown.
The Region XI Championship is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, to be held at the higher remaining seed.
