Iowa Lakes Community College Head Coach Katie Larson announced the signing of Kacie Salazar to the 2017-2018 recruiting class. Kacie is the daughter of Jerry and Jane Salazar and played for the Ridgeview High School Wolfpack.
"We are very excited to welcome Kacie and her family to our Laker softball program. She is a young lady that has the desire to compete and win at a high level. Her passion for the game, desire to be the best, and work ethic will lead her to be very successful at Iowa Lakes." commented Larson.
As the starting shortstop, Salazar has been named Most Valuable Player the past three years for her varsity team. In three years, Kacie has a batting average of .444 with 99 hits, including 16 doubles, 4 triples, and 4 homeruns. She has an on base percentage of .512 and has knocked in 31 runs. Salazar was named 2nd Team All-League her sophomore year and Honorable Mention All-League her junior year. During her senior season, Kacie was named Carl's Jr. Student-Athlete of the Week.
Kacie also played volleyball at Ridgeview High School. She was named Most Valuable Player her freshman through junior years. In the classroom, Kacie has made the Honor Roll and was a CSI Qualifier her freshman and sophomore years.
"Kacie is a dynamic player that can play multiple positions." Larson said. "With her quick and smooth hands, we look for Kacie to be outstanding on the left side of the infield. Her softball IQ will allow her to be a natural leader for us on the field, which is something that we are looking for in a shortstop. Offensively, Kacie will provide us with some consistency. She steps into the box with no hesitation and gets the job done. We are very thrilled that Kacie decided to be a Laker and we cannot wait to watch her grow!"
