Iowa Lakes Community College softball team had seven student-athletes that were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Softball All-Region teams.
Bryn Bohmann, infield, MacKenna Jones, pitcher, and Alyssa Thorson, outfield, were all named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team. Olivia Funk, designated player, and Karisa Hernandez, infield, were both selected to the ICCAC All-Region 2nd team. Kiaya Dunbar, catcher, and Paige Grafton, infield, were named to the ICCAC All-Region Honorable Mention team.
Bohmann, a sophomore, finished the year with a .474 batting average (third in conference), a .500 on-base percentage, and .985 slugging percentage (first in conference). She had 63 hits, including 13 doubles, 2 triples, and 17 homeruns (second in conference). Bohmann scored 45 times and drove in 58 of her teammates. These numbers were put up with Bohmann missing 13 games for the Lakers. For her efforts, she was selected as the ICCAC Player of the Week one time this season.
Jones, a sophomore, appeared in 35 games in the circle for the Lakers and played in all 54 games this season. She earned an 18-8 record with 2 saves on the season. She is currently third in the conference for wins (18), sixth in ERA (2.77) and first in innings pitched (184.2). Jones was dominate in the circle, recording 252 strikeouts (first in the conference) on the season. This allowed her a 9.55 average strikeouts per seven innings. Because of her strong play, Jones was named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week three times and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week one time.
Thorson, a sophomore, did it all for the Lakers this year. Offensively, she compiled a .520 batting average (first in conference), a .566 on-base percentage (third in conference), and a .900 slugging percentage (fourth in conference). Thorson recorded 78 hits (fourth in conference), including 21(fourth in conference) doubles and 12 homeruns. She scored 73 (second in conference) times on the season and stole 37 bases (second in conference). Impressively, Thorson struck out just three times on the entire season. Defensively, she had a .988 fielding percentage with 3 outfield assists. All of this was done while missing ten games on the season due to an injury. For her efforts, Thorson was awarded ICCAC Player of the Week one time this season.
Funk, a sophomore, ended the season with a .396 batting average and a .456 on-base percentage. She recorded 36 hits, including 4 doubles and 6 homeruns. Funk scored 18 times and scored 28 of her teammates. It seemed like Funk came up big for the Lakers when they were looking for hits to get the offense going.
Hernandez, a sophomore, played in all 54 games for the Lakers this season. She put together a .321 batting average and a .413 on-base percentage. She compiled 52 hits, including 10 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 homeruns. Hernandez scored 37 times, drove in 19 of her teammates, and stole 12 bases. Hernandez really shined for the Lakers defensively coming up time and time again with big plays.
Dunbar, a sophomore, made an appearance behind the plate in 86% of the Lakers conference games. She also played in 53 of the Lakers 54 games. Dunbar put together a .331 batting average with a .415 on base percentage. She recorded 46 hits, including 11 doubles and 7 homeruns. From the nine spot, Dunbar scored 44 times and drove in 37 of her teammates. She was walked 20 times and stole 19 bases on the season. Defensively, she had a .988 fielding percentage and threw out 3 runners on the season.
Grafton, a sophomore, played in 49 games this season for the Lakers. She put together a .323 batting average with a .573 slugging percentage. Grafton had 53 hits, including 14 doubles and 9 homeruns. She scored 39 times and drove in 41 of her teammates.
"These athletes are very deserving of these awards. This league is filled with great players and being recognized as one of them is very difficult and a great honor. I am very proud of them and excited that their hard work and passion for the game of softball was recognized." Commented Coach King
