Six Iowa Lakes Softball Players Selected to All-Region Teams

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team had six student-athletes who were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Softball All-Region teams.

Taylor Larson, infield, was named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team. Abby Burgess, catcher; Korilynn Christians, outfield; Kaitlyn DuChateau, infield; and Macy Pickett, utility, were selected to the ICCAC All-Region 2nd team. Karlee Akers, catcher, earned ICCAC Honorable Mention honors.

Larson, a sophomore, finished the year with a .385 batting average and a .462 on-base percentage. She compiled 69 hits, including 8 doubles, 3 triples, and 24 home runs (first in conference/third in the nation). Larson scored 64 times and drove in 72 (fifth in conference) of her teammates. Larson also had a .866 slugging percentage (third in the conference). Even with that power, Larson was a perfect 21 of 21 (ninth in conference) on stolen bases. Larson appeared in 58 games this season. For her efforts on the field, Larson was named ICCAC Player of the Week one time this year.

Burgess, a sophomore, appeared in 59 of the Lakers' 60 games this season. Defensively, Burgess threw out 16 of 30 runners attempting to steal for a .533 runners caught stealing percentage (first in conference). Burgess posted a .273 batting average with 39 hits. She had 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 4 home runs. She had 27 stolen bases on the year (fourth in the conference).

Christians, a freshman, played in 57 games in her debut season. Offensively, Christians earned a .374 batting average with a .406 on-base percentage and a .674 slugging percentage. She swiped 19 bases this year, scored 59 runs, and drove in 60 runs (tenth in conference). Christians racked up 71 hits on the year with 18 doubles and 13 home runs. Defensively, Christians had four assists from the outfield. For her efforts, Christians was awarded ICCAC Player of the Week one time this season.

DuChateau, a freshman, ended the season with a .400 batting average in 59 games. She earned a .451 on-base percentage and a .759 slugging percentage (ninth in conference). DuChateau led the team with 78 hits (seventh in conference), including 15 doubles, 2 triples, and 17 home runs. From the leadoff position, DuChateau racked up 80 runs batted in (fourth in conference) and scored 65 times herself. For her efforts, DuChateau received ICCAC Player of the Week one time this season.

Pickett, a freshman, earned the award by playing first base, right field, and pitching for the Lakers. Out of the 52 games Pickett appeared in, she started in 27 games in the circle for the Lakers. She earned a 13-12 record, throwing 153.2 innings (fifth in conference) on the year. She struck out 159 batters (fourth in the conference) for a 7.24 K/7 inning rate. At the plate, Pickett finished with a .303 batting average. She had 46 hits, including 10 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 home runs.

Akers, a freshman, played in 56 games this season. She earned a .329 batting average. Akers had 53 hits on the year, including 12 doubles and 2 home runs. She scored 29 runs and drove in 33. Akers also only struck out 11 times in 161 at-bats. Behind the plate, Akers threw out 3 of 6 runners attempting to steal for a .500 runners caught stealing rate (third in conference).

"These athletes are very deserving of these awards. This league is filled with great players, and to be recognized as one of them is very difficult and a great honor. I am proud of them and excited that their hard work and passion for the game of softball were recognized." Commented Coach King.
