Iowa Lakes Softball player, Macy Pickett, has recently signed to continue her athletic and academic careers at the University of Bridgeport. She will be studying Psychology at the institution located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Pickett had this to say about choosing the University of Bridgeport, "I chose University of Bridgeport because of their competitive level on the field, and in the classroom. Coach Dawn's program shares many of the same values that Coach King's at Iowa Lakes does, and I am looking forward to continue developing as an athlete, a student, and teammate."
Pickett is the daughter of Shannon and Barb Pickett. She is from Beaumont, Alberta, Canda where she graduated from Beaumont Composite High School.
In her first year as a Laker, Pickett played a vital role in the team's accomplishments. She was honored as an ICCAC All-Region 2nd Team selection because of her success last season. In the circle, Pickett was 13-12 with 153.2 innings pitched. She struck out 159 batters, while only walking 61. In the batter's box, she compiled a .303 batting average. She had 45 hits, including 10 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homeruns. Pickett also found a lot of success in the circle, earning 1st Team NJCAA Academic All-American, Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar, and ICCAC Academic All-Region 1st Team honors.
Coach King had this to say about Pickett, "Macy will be leaving a huge hole for us to fill next year, both on the field and off. She has been a workhorse for us in the circle as well as a leader to her teammates. Macy has also been a role-model off the field. She has really embraced the community and is always the first to volunteer when asked. Macy has made a huge impact here at Iowa Lakes and she will be missed! We cannot wait to see how Macy stamps her mark not only at Bridgeport, but in her entire future.
"My time at Iowa Lakes has given me lifelong relationships and I am so grateful for the opportunities this program has presented me with. Thank you to my coaches and my teammates that have given me a home away from home," commented Pickett.
