The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team earned two more wins to increase their winning streak to ten games. In the first game, Katie Kvigne continued her perfect season with a 7-2 victory over Mid-Michigan College. The Lakers then took care of business, beating Rochester Community and Technical College 12-4 in five innings. The Lakers are now 14-2 on the season.
GAME 1: 7 (ILCC), 2 (MMC)
The Lakers jumped on the scoreboard early in the bottom of the first inning. Kaitlyn DuChateau reached base with a single and then advanced to second on an error. Addison Wheeler then delivered an RBI single to score DuChateau and give Iowa Lakes a 1–0 lead. Gracie Knobloch then drove a ball up the middle to advance Wheeler to third. Karlee Akers lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Wheeler home and extending the lead to 2-0.
Iowa Lakes continued to apply pressure in the middle innings. In the fifth inning, Korilynn Christians started the rally with a double. Wheeler walked and then Knobloch delivered another RBI single up the middle, scoring Christians and advancing Wheeler to third. Akers followed with an RBI single of her own, before Macy Pickett walked to load up the bases. The final run of the inning came off a Mid-Michigan error on a pop fly off the bat of Marrissa Miller to give the Lakers a 5-0 advantage.
The Lakers added two more runs in the sixth inning. Christians singled again before Wheeler moved runners into scoring position with a single of her own. Akers delivered once more with an RBI single, scoring Christians. Mid-Michigan then attempted to pick off Wheeler at third, but a throwing error allowed her to scamper home to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Mid-Michigan attempted a late comeback in the seventh inning, scoring two runs with the help of a single and a Laker error. However, Iowa Lakes closed out the game to secure the 7–2 victory.
Katie Kvigne threw a six-inning shutout, allowing three hits and one hit by pitch, while striking out four. Maren Davis threw one inning in relief, allowing two runs, zero earned on, one hit and one walk.
Karlee Akers was 3-3 with three runs batted in, while Addison Wheeler was 2-3 with three runs scored. Gracie Knobloch and Korilynn Christians also added two hits in the game.
GAME 2: 12 (ILCC), 4 (RCTC)
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Christians walked and then stole second, before Wheeler drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. Gracie Knobloch followed with a run-scoring single to extend the lead. Akers, Macy Pickett, and Kvigne all walked to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
The Lakers added to their lead in the second inning when Christians singled, Wheeler walked, and Knobloch singled, before Akers hit a sacrifice fly to score Christians.
Iowa Lakes broke the game open in the third inning with a huge offensive surge. Morgan Kolodzienski led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Kvigne and Kenzie Enter each walked to load the bases up for DuChateau. She grounded into a fielder's choice where all runners were safe to keep the bases loaded. Christians then delivered a two-run single before Wheeler followed with a two-run double of her own to put the Lakers up 10-0. Knobloch also delivered an RBI single, scoring Wheeler. Akers then walked, before both runners advanced on a passed ball. Pickett then hit a ground ball to short, allowing Knobloch to score. Akers scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball to make the score 12-0 in favor of the Lakers.
Rochester Community and Technical College got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI single and later added two runs in the fifth, but the early offensive outburst by Iowa Lakes proved too much to overcome.
Both Addison Wheeler and Gracie Knobloch were perfect from the plate, going 3-3. Wheeler had three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Knobloch added two runs batted in and two runs scored. Korilynn Christians added two hits and a walk with three runs scored and two runs batted in.
Macy Pickett threw the first four innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk, with six strikeouts. Kassidy Elkins threw the final inning, allowing three runs, zero earned, on two walks and striking out one.
The Lakers will conclude their spring break games with two games on March 9th. They will start the day at 8:00 AM central time with a game against Mid-Michigan College. Their final game of the trip will be against Kishwaukee College at 12:30 PM central time.
