Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball Ready for Season

The 2022-2023 Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team is very optimistic about this year.  They have high expectations for this season as they return four sophomores and bring in six newcomers.  They expect to pick up right where they left off last year, where they finished with a respectable 19-12 record and tied for 3rd in conference with a 13-7 record.

They bring back 3rd team all-region guard Brielle Bartelt who averaged 10.5 points per game and shot 33% from the 3 point line. Fellow sophomores Jasmine Jones and Ihari Oromo averaged 8.0 points per game and 6.4 points per game. Sophomore Aza Swayzer will be taking on an increased role this season. The sophomores will have big shoes to fill. Last year's sophomores included three all-region players in Jaeda Whitner, who now attends Division I Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Rachel Puok, now at Division II Spring Hill College, and Rachel Breck who graduated with her AA degree from Iowa Lakes.

Coach Martin is really excited about the freshmen group who bring a lot of athleticism and energy to the team. Local standout Jaydan Nitchals, Racine, Wi, native Vantaya Johnson, as well as Jasmyn Hale, Makayla Holton, Anisah Wolf, and Emma Kanz of the Twin Cities make up the Lakers freshmen class.

Coach Ashley Martin is in her seventh season as head coach for the Lakers. When talking about the team this season coach Martin said, "Really excited about this group. They are really starting to come together and see what we are capable of. We are an athletic group that can really get after teams defensively. I'm excited to see this group continue to improve everyday."

The Lakers open at home against Dordt College JV.  They will tip off November 7th at 5:30pm.
