ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 49–45 victory over Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday night at home.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with both teams tied at five points after the first quarter. Iowa Lakes matched Ellsworth with 15 points in the second quarter to head into halftime even, before gaining separation in the second half. The Lakers outscored the Panthers 16–15 in the third quarter and 13–10 in the fourth to secure the win.
Zoey Wooten led Iowa Lakes in scoring with 13 points, shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point line. Makyia Kenney added nine points and led the Lakers on the glass with seven rebounds. Shanya Glover and Tahlea Tirrell each contributed eight points in the balanced scoring effort.
With the win, Iowa Lakes improves to 9–1 in conference play and 13–4 overall.
Iowa Lakes will return to action on the road Saturday, January 17, traveling to Creston, Iowa to face Southwestern Community College at 1:00 p.m. The Lakers' next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. against Kirkwood Community College.
