Iowa Lakes Hosts Iowa Western in Final Home Dual of the Semester

The Iowa Lakes wrestling team closed out its final home dual of the fall semester on Thursday night, hosting a strong Iowa Western squad inside the Laker Gym. Despite several competitive bouts and two hard-fought victories, the Lakers fell to the Reivers in the non-conference matchup.

Iowa Western opened the dual with momentum, taking the first several weights, but the Lakers continued to battle throughout the evening. Iowa Lakes earned wins at 149 lbs and 197 lbs, showcasing toughness and continued improvement as the roster develops through the early portion of the season.

At 149 lbs, William Penn delivered the first win of the night for the Lakers, controlling his match start to finish in an 11-5 decision over Iowa Western's Logan Crowther.

Later at 197 lbs, Damien Spears turned in one of the strongest performances of the dual, picking up a dominant 13-0 major decision over Royal Dickson and giving Iowa Lakes four team points.

Although the scoreboard favored Iowa Western, Head Coach Corey Meyer emphasized the growth he is seeing across the lineup. "Our guys continue to make gains every week. Even in a dual like this, there were moments where we saw the fight, the technique, and the progress we've been working toward," said Coach Meyer. "Wins and losses matter, but right now we're focused on building the right habits. We'll use this to fuel us heading into the next stretch of the season."

Iowa Lakes now shifts focus to upcoming tournament action as the team prepares for the BVU Open on Saturday and the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association Duals in January.
