The No. 23-ranked Iowa Lakes Community College wrestling team earned a statement 26–19 dual victory over No. 24 Hawkeye Community College, highlighted by a dominant stretch in the lower and middle weights and several bonus-point performances.
Iowa Lakes set the tone early at 125 pounds, where Dominic Chimeno controlled the match and picked up a technical fall over Adam Fish (18–3, 6:38) to put the Lakers on the board with a 5–0 lead. At 133, Blake Eatman followed with a strong major decision (14–2) against Mariyon Norton, extending the advantage.
The momentum continued at 141 as Logan McDonald delivered an explosive technical fall, defeating Macael Bear 19–4 in just 3:40. At 149, William Penn kept the pressure on with a quick 15–0 technical fall over Tate Turner in 2:25, giving Iowa Lakes a commanding lead. Hawkeye responded in the middle of the lineup, earning technical fall victories at 165 and 174, and a major decision at 197 to narrow the gap. Iowa Lakes answered back at 184, where Jacob Range battled to a key 7–4 decision over Gianni Sutherland, providing crucial team points down the stretch.
Despite Hawkeye closing the dual with a technical fall at heavyweight, Iowa Lakes' early bonus-point wins proved decisive as the Lakers secured the 26–19 victory in a matchup of nationally ranked teams.
"This was a tough team win against a ranked opponent," head coach Corey Meyer said. "We were missing some starters, but that's where our next-man-up mentality showed. There was no backing down — we had to attack, capitalize on opportunities, and score bonus points whenever we could. The energy from our bench is a real asset for us, and our guys feed off that and use it to our advantage every time we step on the mat."
Iowa Lakes now turns its attention to a challenging stretch of the schedule, with upcoming duals against Southeastern Community College and No. 1-ranked Indian Hills, along with several open tournaments, as the Lakers continue to sharpen their lineup ahead of postseason competition.
