September 18, 2025 | Estherville, Iowa – The Iowa Lakes Community College volleyball team defended their home court in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, earning a five-set victory over Marshalltown Community College at Laker Gymnasium. The Lakers took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 18-25, 23-25, and 15-7.
Freshman outside hitter Brooke White led the way with a match-high 21 kills, hitting .288 while also collecting 29 digs for a double-double. Kajsa Bates added another strong performance at the net, finishing with 15 kills on a .323 hitting percentage.
Setter Rylie Miller directed the offense with 37 assists and chipped in 20 digs defensively. Libero Lorin Turkdogan anchored the back row with a team-high 30 digs, while Lily Kunselman and Jaliyah McGee also contributed 17 and 16 digs, respectively.
As a team, Iowa Lakes tallied 60 kills, 126 digs, and 11 blocks in the hard-fought win.
"This was a gritty match, and I'm really proud of how we battled in those pressure moments," Head Coach Menzies said. "Brooke and Kajsa stepped up offensively, and our defense really carried us when we needed it most."
With the victory, the Lakers improve to 5-11 on the season. Iowa Lakes will return to action tonight, Thursday, Sept. 18, traveling to face William Penn JV on the road at 6:30 p.m.
