Lakers Fall to No. 4 Kirkwood, Turkdogan Records 1,000th Career Dig

October 2, 2025 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Iowa Lakes Community College volleyball team faced a tough test Thursday night, falling in straight sets to No. 4 Kirkwood Community College. The Lakers dropped the match by scores of 11-25, 10-25, and 13-25. 

Freshman opposite Madison Conrad posted two kills, one set assist, and a block assist, while sophomore Brooke White led the attack with four kills and four digs. Kajsa Bates added three kills and four points for the Lakers. 

On the defensive end, libero Lorin Turkdogan tallied her 1,000th career dig during the match, finishing with a team-high 12 digs. Setter Jaliyah McGee recorded seven assists to go along with three digs. 

"Playing against a nationally ranked team shows us the level we want to reach," Head Coach Taylor Menzies said. "We'll continue to build on this and focus on improving as a unit." 

The Lakers are now 7-15 overall. Iowa Lakes will return to action this weekend at the Rock Valley Tournament in Rockford, Illinois. The Lakers' schedule is as follows: 

  • Friday, Oct. 3 – vs. Harper College, 2:00 p.m. 

  • Friday, Oct. 3 – vs. Highland Community College (IL), 6:00 p.m. 

  • Saturday, Oct. 4 – vs. John Wood Community College, 10:00 a.m. 

  • Saturday, Oct. 4 – vs. Rock Valley College, 2:00 p.m.
