October 5, 2025 | Rockford, Ill. — The Iowa Lakes Community College volleyball team competed in the Rock Valley Tournament this past weekend, taking on four opponents over two days in Rockford, Illinois. The Lakers went 1-3 on the weekend, highlighted by a four-set win over John Wood Community College on Saturday morning.
In the opening match on Friday, the Lakers fell in a tight five-set battle to Harper College, 24-26, 25-12, 16-25, 28-26, 13-15.
Freshman Madison Conrad led the way offensively with 11 kills while hitting .269, and Briana Cunnigan-Little added 10 kills and 5 digs.
Setter Jaliyah McGee tallied 37 assists, 15 digs, and 4 aces, while Brooke White posted a double-double with 8 kills and 26 digs. Lorin Turkdogan anchored the back row with 22 digs for the Lakers.
In their second match of the day, Iowa Lakes faced Highland Community College (IL), falling in three sets, 22-25, 22-25, 17-25.
Brooke White again led the Lakers with 8 kills and 9 digs, while Kajsa Bates added 5 kills and 3 blocks.
McGee recorded another strong setting performance with 26 assists, 3 aces, and 9 digs, and Turkdogan continued her consistent defensive play with 21 digs.
The Lakers bounced back on Saturday morning with a strong 3-1 victory over John Wood Community College, 25-0, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22.
Sophomore Briana Cunnigan-Little powered the offense with 16 kills, hitting an impressive .310, while Brooke White followed with 9 kills and 16 digs.
Lily Kunselman contributed 3 service aces and 10 digs, and McGee guided the offense with 28 assists and 2 aces. Kajsa Bates added 4 kills and 3 blocks, helping the Lakers control the net in the win.
In their final match of the weekend, Iowa Lakes faced Rock Valley College, falling in three sets, 14-25, 19-25, 20-25.
Bates once again led the Lakers' attack with 10 kills while hitting .350, and White added 7 kills.
McGee notched 22 assists, and Turkdogan led the defensive effort with 19 digs, followed by Kunselman with 11 digs and an ace.
The Lakers are now 8-18 on the season and return to action on Wednesday, October 8, when they travel to face North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
