Lakers Sweep Southwestern in Conference Showdown

October 16, 2025 | Creston, Iowa – The Iowa Lakes Community College volleyball team delivered an impressive performance on Wednesday night, sweeping Southwestern Community College in a key conference matchup (25–22, 26–24, 25–21). 

With the win, the Lakers improve to 10–19 overall and 3–6 in ICCAC play, continuing to show growth and consistency late in the season. 

Freshman Brooke White powered the Lakers' offense with 12 kills and 14 total points, while Kajsa Bates added 8 kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Jaliyah McGee paced the attack with 15 assists and added 17 digs on the defensive side. 

Defensively, Rylie Miller anchored the back row with 17 digs, and Lily Kunselman contributed 9 digs and 2 service aces. At the net, Briana Cunnigan-Little and Aysia Heard combined for 12 kills and 4 blocks to help secure the sweep. 

Head Coach Taylor Menzies praised the team's composure and energy throughout the match. "Our team came ready to compete and stayed disciplined in every set," Menzies said. "We're starting to see all the pieces come together at the right time." 

The Lakers finished the night with a .233 hitting percentage and 50 total points as a team. 

Iowa Lakes returns home for Sophomore Night on Monday, October 21, when they host Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). First serve is set for 7:00 PM at the Estherville campus.
