Lakers Earn Silver Bracket Runner-Up Finish at NJCAA National Duels

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College women's wrestling team delivered a strong performance at this weekend's tournament, finishing second in the Silver Bracket and recording multiple dual victories against regional competition.

The Lakers opened pool play with a tightly contested dual against Colby Community College, falling 29–25 after battling back from an early deficit. Iowa Lakes received key bonus-point wins from Abigail Ji (131) and Brooklyn Robinson (235), while Keyahna Phillips (180) added a dominant technical fall to keep the dual within reach until the final bout.

In round two, Iowa Lakes faced Umpqua Community College, dropping a 37–17 decision. Despite the result, the Lakers continued to compete aggressively, highlighted by falls from Phillips and Robinson.

Iowa Lakes closed pool play on a high note with a commanding 41–13 victory over Fort Hays Tech Northwest. The Lakers controlled the dual from start to finish, earning multiple forfeit wins and falls from Anika Stearns (117) and Ji (131) to secure the team victory.

Entering Silver Bracket competition, Iowa Lakes opened with a 38–14 win over Trinidad State. After early losses at the lower weights, the Lakers took control through the middle and upper weights. Stearns earned a decision at 117, while Alexa Karch (180) recorded a first-period fall to help extend the lead.

The Lakers followed with their most dominant performance of the tournament, defeating Big Bend Community College 45–10. Iowa Lakes collected multiple falls across the lineup, including pins from Stearns, Stevy Griffin, Ji, Michelle Ramirez, and Karch, clinching a second-place finish in the Silver Bracket.

In the final dual, Iowa Lakes matched up with Hawkeye Community College, falling 31–19. The Lakers earned key wins from Nina Aceves (145) and Phillips (180), with Robinson (235) adding points at heavyweight.

Throughout the tournament, Phillips led the way with multiple falls and technical falls, while Robinson continued to be a consistent scorer at heavyweight. Stearns and Ji provided crucial momentum in the middle weights as Iowa Lakes showcased depth, resilience, and continued growth as a program.

The Lakers are back on the mat this Wednesday in Burlington, IA to wrestle Southeastern.
