The Iowa Lakes Softball team excelled in the classroom this past season, finishing top 25 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) softball GPA standings. This is the first time in coach King's history as the head coach that the team has achieved this standing.
In addition, seven Iowa Lakes Community College softball student-athletes were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Softball Academic All-American teams.
To be eligible for the NJCAA Academic All-Region First Team, a student-athlete much have a 4.0 GPA during the spring season. To be eligible for the NJCAA Academic All-American Second Team, a student-athlete must have a term GPA between 3.8 and 3.99 during the spring season. To be eligible for the NJCAA Academic All-American Third Team, a student-athlete must have between a term GPA between a 3.6 and 3.79.
The one athlete that has received first team honors is Eliya Johnson. Johnson is a freshman from Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
The four athletes that received second team honors are: Kamryn Buntrock, a sophomore from Red Oak, Iowa, Madison Hough, a freshman from Graettinger, Iowa, Emma Kral, a freshman from Graettinger, Iowa, and Kaitlin Roundy, a freshman from Washington, Utah.
The two athletes that received third team honors are: Lexi Chase, a freshman from Chatfield, Minnesota and Mackenna Otte, a freshman from Randolph, Minnesota.
"I am very proud of what these seven young ladies and the entire team accomplished this season. Not only did they excel on the field, but also in the classroom. Being a student-athlete is a hard task and then you add on a national pandemic, and it becomes even harder. I am proud of this team for taking this challenge and running with it. They are truly a special group of young women that have set the bar very high for future Lakers," commented Coach King.
