A veteran Iowa Lakes softball team is looking forward to starting their season this weekend as they travel to Beatrice, NE.  The lakers return seven starters from last year's squad that ended the season strong. All American pitcher Lexi Chase and 1st team All-Region pitcher Eliya Johnson are looking to build on last year's success. The Lakers have another returning pitcher and three freshmen pitchers to bring some variety and competition to the position.

Chase will also be an important leader for the Lakers this season. Fellow returner Allie McCabe's energy and positive attitude will also play a big role.

Head Coach Katie King has numerous freshmen looking to make an impact this season as well. MacKenna Jones will be pitching and bring a strong bat to the team. Bryn Bohmann has a monster bat and will be tough in the batter's box and versatile defensively. Karisa Hernandez has a high softball IQ, has done well in the lead off position, and will be a leader defensively.

The Lakers have already had some great scrimmages this year. Coach King was pleased with her team's aggressive offense and play making on defense. As they begin the regular season she will look for them to be more aggressive on the bases.  She is also looking for them to continue to grow in confidence, "They have all the tools to be successful offensively, defensively, on the bases, and in the circle. Now it is just letting ourselves enjoy the next few months and win some ballgames."
