The Iowa Lakes softball team went 1-2 on their first day in Florida. The Lakers dropped game one 9-6 to #15 Triton College, dropped game two 4-3 to Waubonsee College, before winning game three 5-4 over #18 Madison College. The Lakers now hold an overall record of 6-2.

GAME 1:  9 (TC), 6 (ILCC)

The Lakers opened with an early 6-0 lead after three innings. This was highlighted by a Lexi Chase solo homerun, Bryn Bohmann two run homerun, and an Allie McCabe solo homerun.

Triton came back in the final three innings driving four balls over the fence of their own and two Laker errors to score nine runs.

GAME 2: 4 (WCC), 3 (ILCC)

The Lakers again took the early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. Karisa Hernandez led off the game with a walk and stole second. She advanced to third on a single from Chase, before scoring on a throw down to second on a Chase steal.

Neither team threatened again until the bottom of the second inning, when Waubonsee got runners on second and third with a single, walk, and passed ball. They scored both runners on a single and Laker error to put themselves up 2-1.

Iowa Lakes retook the lead in the top of the fourth on a two out single from Chase and a Bohmann two run shot over the left field fence. Jayda Staige went out and quickly put the Waubonsee hitters down in order, getting a groundout, fly out, and strikeout.

The Lakers lost their lead in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff single. A sacrifice bunt where the runner went two bases, put a Waubonsee runner at third with one out. They then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score the tying run.

Waubonsee came up with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with back to back singles, followed by a Laker error.

Jayda Staige took the loss for the Lakers, allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Lexi Chase led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-4 with one run scored. Bryn Bohmann had a homerun with two runs batted in.

GAME 3: 5 (ILCC), 4 (MC)

Lexi Chase got the Lakers on the board early with a solo-homerun in the first inning.

Madison scored in two consecutive innings to give themselves the lead. They scored one run in the top of the third with a solo shot of their own and two more runs in the fourth. The fourth inning was highlighted by a walk, back to back singles, a passed ball, and a sacrifice fly.

With the Lakers down 3-1, they brought the score within one with a Allie McCabe homerun.

The Wolfpack extended their lead with a single and a double. Needing to score, the Lakers put a three run inning together in the fifth. Amanda Franke led off with a walk and came around to score three straight Madison errors. Chase used some heads up baserunning to score on the same error that Franke scored on. With runners at second and third with one out, Brielle Hogan hit a sacrifice fly to score Bohmann and bring the winning run across the plate.

MacKenna Jones and the Lakers shut the Wolfpack down in order in the sixth. Madison put up a fight in the seventh, getting a runner on with a Laker error. Jones got the next Madison batter to strikeout, which was followed by a single. With runners at first and second, Jones got the final batter to fly out to Kiley Hill.

MacKenna Jones picked up the win for the Lakers, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, four walks, and six strikeouts. The Lakers were led at the plate by Allie McCabe, who was 2-3 with one run batted in and one run scored.
