Iowa Lakes Rolls to 5-0 victory at Central Community College

COLUMBUS, Neb. – The Iowa Lakes women's soccer team put together a dominant performance on the road Saturday, defeating Central Community College 5–0 behind a balanced attack and stout defense.

The Lakers opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Miu Kamei found the back of the net, assisted by Chanell Makusu and Claudia BeaujonAna Zamorano doubled the lead in the 25th minute by calmly converting a penalty kick, sending Iowa Lakes into halftime with a 2–0 advantage.

In the second half, Iowa Lakes continued to apply pressure. Amelie Prie made it 3–0 in the 76th minute off a pass from Stina Mathews, and just two minutes later Ines Balaghni buried a penalty kick to extend the lead. Kamei capped off the scoring in the 86th minute with her second goal of the match, this time unassisted, sealing the 5–0 victory.

The match saw its only disciplinary action in the 38th minute when Iowa Lakes' Chanell Makusu and Central's Erin Harris were each shown yellow cards.

The Lakers controlled the game from start to finish, recording 13 shots on goal while holding Central to just one. The defensive unit and goalkeeper combined for a clean sheet to preserve the shutout.

The contest was played in 20°C conditions with little wind, though heavy bugs around the field created a unique challenge for players.

With the win, Iowa Lakes improves to 5-3-1 on the season. The Lakers return home Saturday to host Southeastern Community College.
