Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer Set to Host NJCAA Region 11 Finals

The Laker women's soccer team will host the NJCAA Region 11 Championship game this Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 pm in Spencer, IA. The Lakers will face off against the 2nd seeded Hawks from Northeast Community College. The route to the championship for the Hawks started back on October 25th against the 7th seeded Blue Knights from Dakota County. The Hawks came out victorious 8-0 to advance to the semifinal game. In their semifinal game, the Hawks faced the 3rd seeded Tritons from Iowa Central (NJCAA Ranked #16), again coming out on top, winning 2-0. Leading the Hawks is head coach Chad Miller, in his 7th season at the reins of the Hawks. Miller has led the Hawks to back-to-back Region 11 titles, and a 9-8-2 overall record and a 6-1-1 conference record in his 7th season.

For the Lakers, the road to the regional championship game started with a first-round bye, secured by the Lakers winning the regular season Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Championship. The Lakers were set to face #4 seeded Redtails from Hawkeye Community College (NJCAA Ranked #19) in the semifinals. The Lakers scored first off a corner kick by sophomore Stina Mathews, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead early in the game. With the score remaining 1-0 for most of the second half, sophomore Ana Zamorano (assisted by freshman Zoe Lawrence) found the back of the net within the final two minutes of the game, making it 2-0 and sealing the win.

Leading the Lakers is head coach Mukwa Ogitchida, entering his 1st season as the Laker head coach, Coach Ogitchida has led the Lakers to their first regular season conference championship in program history, as well as a 11-4-1 overall record and a 7-1 conference record in his 1st season.

The NJCAA Region 11 Championship game is set for a 2:00 pm kickoff at the Spencer Soccer Pitch (1106 East 9th St. Spencer, Iowa 51301) on Saturday November 1st .
