Estherville, Iowa (October 21, 2025) – The Iowa Lakes Community College volleyball team hosted Des Moines Area Community College on Tuesday night for Sophomore Night in Estherville. Despite a strong effort and an energetic home crowd, the Lakers fell to the Bears in four sets (20-25, 9-25, 25-21, 22-25).
Sophomore Kajsa Bates led the Lakers offensively with 12 kills on an impressive .400 hitting percentage while adding 8 digs and 3 blocks. Brooke White followed closely with 10 kills and a team-high 19 digs.
Freshman setter Rylie Miller distributed 18 assists and recorded 11 digs, while Jaliyah McGee added 15 assists and 13 digs to keep the offense flowing. Defensively, Lorin Turkdogan and Lily Kunselman anchored the back row with 12 digs apiece.
Prior to the match, Iowa Lakes recognized its sophomores — Kajsa Bates, Lily Kunselman, and Lorin Turkdogan — for their dedication, leadership, and impact on the program.
"It was a special night celebrating our sophomores," said Head Coach Taylor Menzies. "They've each played big roles for us this season, and I'm proud of how the entire team battled and supported one another through every point."
With the loss, Iowa Lakes moves to 10-20 overall and 3-7 in ICCAC conference play. The Lakers will look to bounce back on Thursday, October 23, when they travel to face Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
